Steveston Icebreaker 8k (February 2, 2014)

The 2014 racing season began on February 2nd in the first of the Lower Mainland Road Race Series event:  the Steveston Icebreaker 8k.  The conditions were slightly chillier than ideal, but the rain staved off allowing for decent racing conditions. The out and back course along the ocean is a scenic course, but provides a challenge due to the gravel terrain of the first 4k.  Overall the race went well, IF sponsored athlete Kimberley Doerksen was the 2nd female overall, and 1st place in the 20-24 age division in a personal best time of 27:55.  It was a great kick-off race for the 2014 season!

Race Report – First Half ½ Marathon (February 16/2014)

Despite the storm and high wind warnings, the morning turned out to be a runner’s dream: cool and clear with the sun shining bright.  The First Half ½ Marathon also doubled as the BC Half Marathon Championship race resulting in many talented runners showing up to race.  The conditions were great, but there was still a strong wind that sucked the energy out of the runner’s legs.  IF sponsored athlete’s Natasha Wodak (1:17:04) and Kimberley Doerksen (1:17:26) both competed and took first and second place female overall respectively.  Both athletes subsequently won first and second in the BC Half Marathon Championships, and won their respective age categories.  Overall it was a great showing by the IF sponsored athletes!
