What IF you could… long drive 405 yards!
It was the summer of 2008 since I last cashed a cheque in a professional long drive tour event, and for the better part of a decade I never knew if I ever would again. On May 28th, at the 2015 East Coast Classic in West Columbia, South Carolina after less than 5 months of training at Innovative Fitness Victoria with Mike Slater, Guinness One, and consulting with Nick Mueller, Director Of Golf Performance at Innovative Fitness White Rock, I am back in the money, finishing 8th in the tournament with my longest drive of 405 yards! Money is exciting, don’t get me wrong, but it’s the reason why the money is coming in that gets me really excited!
Before I started training with IF Victoria, I didn’t realize how disfunctional my body was, how weak my core was, and how badly it affected my golf swing. I had the 6 pack abs, and I was able to push heavy weight around at the gym but after getting screened at IF Victoria and IF White Rock it was clear that my shoulders, hips and glutes were functioning terribly, and my core strength was literally a joke for a world class athlete. These disfunctions were preventing me from getting into and holding key positions in my golf swing to generate maximum efficiency, accuracy and power. I was unable to load my trailing side on my back swing, get into a powerful squat during my transition and utilize correct internal and external rotation of my shoulders throughout my swing which led to weak and inadequate rotational power—the key to all great golf swings. This is all history now, thanks to the passionate and dedicated team I’ve been blessed to work with at Innovative Fitness. I’m hitting the ball farther than I ever have and we still haven’t even hit the power phase of training. Needless to say, I am stoked!
I absolutely love IF’s commitment to helping members achieve their goals, and my goal this year is to win a professional long drive tour event by the end of summer, and become world champion in the fall. There is still a long journey ahead, but this is what I look forward to everyday.
My next tournament is the Mutant Golf Long Drive Championship May 16th in Omaha, Nebraska followed by Bull’s Classic on May 22 in Mt. Gilead, NC, just outside of Charlotte.
Thank you for your interest and support, and may your golf ball fly longer and straighter!
