This month I was informed that it was my 3-year anniversary since I began training with Innovative Fitness. This article is my testimonial to the group at IF Toronto for all of their hard work and dedication in helping me physically recover and regain my confidence after an accident resulting in a shattered femur and broken ankle. As a dedicated and determined person, I always knew in my heart that I was going to recover, I just had no idea what that road would look like. Trust me when I say, the group at IF have paved a quicker, more enjoyable, and educational one for me. Never have I been more in-tune with my body and I’m all the happier for it.
Three years ago, I was looking for a way to get me out of the house, and quite literally “back on my feet” and off the couch after months of rehab and recovery. My sisters encouraged me to take the IF circuit class in Oakville. Knowing that I had an athletic background beforehand surely aided in their persistence in the matter. What they did not know was that after years of relying heavily on my body for my job, my confidence levels were at an all-time low. Hesitant at first and completely unaware of my physical limits, I was graciously welcomed into the group training session. They were very accommodating and made every effort to creatively adapt the exercises so that I could always participate.
After 3 months of using a walker, I completed my first and only 5km “walk” with the assistance of my walker and encouragement of IF owner Josip Maras. It took 1hr 32min and we stopped at every km to take a picture. An hour and thirty-two minutes that may have changed my life more than the 5 seconds the accident took to get me into that state. Emboldened with a newfound sense of achievement (and after 12 hours of sleep… and a month of thinking about it), I was ready to take the next step in my recovery. Since then I have been doing mostly one-on-one training. This is where I’ve seen the biggest changes and improvements. The range of motion in my ankle and hips and my overall strength has improved dramatically and I attribute this to Innovative Fitness’ attention to detail and teachings of core stability and proper breathing. They’ve educated me on how to use my body properly and also how to fuel it through programs such as the Nutrition Challenge.
Innovative Fitness has helped me set and achieve my body composition goals and continue working with me to achieve my sport specific fitness goals. They push you and the sessions can be tough, but the trainers are always the first and last to give you a smile and encourage you to keep up the hard work!

- 100km Tour de Halton Bike ride 2014 (my first), 2015
- Not to mention, my FMS scores have dramatically improved!
