“That’s it, that’s all I got.”

When James showed up to IF he was a guy who had never been inside a gym before. Only 35 minutes into his first ever workout he told me “that’s it, that’s all I got”. He was disappointed in himself but he did not seem surprised. “I doubt it” was his response when I tried to console him and tell him that he would be able to crush these workouts in no time. He did not believe that he could become fit enough to make it through an entire IF workout, much less enjoy it.

Fast forward to now; James has been training with us at IF Kitsilano three times a week with the ultimate goal of losing 100 pounds. As coaches, we are used to looking for the tangible results but it is the intangibles that we often forget about. Yes, James has gotten much stronger and much leaner as well as improved his overall fitness, but he has also gained tremendous confidence and a new outlook on his body. Here is a guy who walked into a new environment three months ago, and it felt like stepping in to the lion’s den. Now, James is confident and comfortable in the gym. It took commitment to a goal and consistency with his program and he is seeing both the tangible and the intangible benefits. James is starting to genuinely enjoy his workouts, and on top of that he is setting new goals and continuing to look ahead and reach higher.

Congratulations on your achievements so far, James! We are looking forward to more amazing challenges and changes in 2015!
