If you’re looking for inspiration, read on… or I should say, “rock on”. Dedicated IF Four Seasons member Erynn Hunter just completed her first half marathon on October 26th, 2015 at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Oasis Vancouver race. She is pleased to say that her discipline paid off on the long 21 kilometre run and that she was sure to make the pavement sing on her rollin’ start.
If you’re thinking about doing your first half, here are some words of wisdom from Erynn herself:
“Training and being disciplined made a huge difference in feeling prepared and confident that I could finish in the time that I had aspired to (and was faster!). What I found personally interesting is that it wasn’t until I was more than half way through my training plan that I actually started to feel stronger… So words or statement of wisdom – perseverance is paramount! And don’t panic, it will get easier after you do the 20km training run.”
The Rock ‘n’ Roll runners have raised more than $310 million for participating charities worldwide and our own Vancouver’s charity of choice is the John Volken Academy, a long-term residential drug and alcohol recovery program and life-skills training centre for young men and women aged 18-34.
The route started at West Hastings and Thurlow and took the runners through Gastown, around the Sea Wall and past the Aquarium in Stanley Park. Here are some more of Erynn’s thoughts on the event:
“The time of year really worked well for me in terms of training and although it could have rained it was a pretty gorgeous day so it all worked out. Also, really liked the route of the run – was challenging but highlighted the beauty of Vancouver with enough flat to enjoy it! And the beer at the end wasn’t horrible either!”
