Recipe of the Week: Spiced Mix Nuts

Posted in IF Insights

Store-bought mixed nuts and trail mixes may sound healthy, but can be loaded with unhealthy sugars.

When you are bored with plain nuts, it’s time to add some spice. These mixed nuts are great on their own, in homemade trail mix, as an appetizer when you’re entertaining, or sprinkled on top of your favourite salad.

  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp curry powder
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (or coconut oil)
  • 2 cups raw nuts of your choice – try pecans, walnuts, almonds, cashews, or hazelnuts!

Heat oven to 325 degrees, and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Combine spices in a medium bowl, then add in oil and mix until smooth. Dump in the nuts and mix until they’re evenly coated. Spread them on the pan without overlapping, and bake for about 12-15 minutes, stirring halfway through. Let them cool for an hour before storing in an airtight container.
