Healthy Hacks for Road Trips

Healthy Road Trip Snacks

Summer is the perfect season for a road trip getaway. Whether it’s somewhere new or a repeat location, it’s a great way to break up the monotony of daily life. However, it can be a struggle to keep up with the healthy habits we’ve been working hard to create when there’s a change in our environment, so here are a few healthy hacks for road trips!

Bring Healthy Snacks!

Pack a mini cooler with some fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, bars etc. That way, when you’re stopping for gas, you don’t get enticed by the overpriced bag of chips.

Choose the Healthier Option!

If you do get stuck having to pick something up from the gas station, go for some unsalted nuts, fresh fruit, yogurt, or cheese. If you’d rather sit down at a restaurant, try ordering a salad, or something on the lighter side, instead of a greasy burger. Bonus – this will ensure you don’t feel weighed down by the meal you ate once you get to your destination a few hours later!

Stretch!

There is nothing worse than arriving at your destination and feeling stiff and sore because you’ve been sitting for hours. Make a pit stop and spend 5 minutes stretching and moving around, your body will thank you for it later.

Make Travelling Part of the Trip!

A lot of the time, we are so focused on getting from point A to point B that we don’t realize that there is so much in between the two. Living in BC, there is a nearly endless amount of hikes or walks on the way!

Explore Your Destination!

Lounging at a beach can be fun at first, but tend to get repetitive as you visit more and more. Go for a hike, do a walking tour, or rent a bike and go for a ride. This way, you really get to see all that your destination has to offer, plus you’ll feel accomplished later that night when you’ve settled down for a few drinks.

You Owe it to Yourself!

Healthy habits can be hard to maintain, especially when someone isn’t in their usual setting, but the few tips above are small and easy ways to keep on top of things!
