Father’s Day is coming up on June 18th and while a card is nice, nothing is better than quality time together and there are plenty of great ways to get out and be active while also working up an appetite for a healthy breakfast!
Great Father’s Day activities:
Try heading out to UBC for a nice nature walk in Pacific Spirit Regional Park or the Greenheart TreeWalk at the UBC Botanical Gardens. Both are easy to get to and from.
For those that are a bit more advanced, hiking around Lynn Canyon or heading up to the Stawamus Chief are both great options to get the blood pumping and some fresh air in your lungs. Just remember to bring lot’s of water and some healthy snacks with you to keep you going!
If you’re really feeling adventurous head out to Granville Island and give kayaking or Stand Up Paddleboarding a shot! What better way to bond with dad than by learning (or attempting to learn) a new skill out on the water!
Finally once you’ve gone out, had your fun and worked up an appetite it’s time to have a healthy meal! Here are two recipes for you to try.
Delicious Fruit Smoothie
A handful of berries
A banana
2 spoonfuls of greek yogurt
Your choice of liquid (milk or any milk alternative, juice, coconut water)
- In a blender blend all ingredients together
- The more liquid you add less thick your smoothie will be, it all comes down to preference!
Hearty Egg Cups
6 Eggs
A splash of milk
Bacon
Vegetables (spinach, peppers etc.)
Grated Cheese
- Fry or bake your bacon, then chop up into small pieces
- Chop up your vegetables
- In a bowl beat eggs, add a splash of milk, then add your chopped up bacon, vegetables and grated cheese
- Distribute evenly across 6-Cup muffin tin and bake for 15 – 20 minutes at 350*F or until a toothpick comes out clean!
These are just a few ideas to show your dad how much you appreciate them, but get creative with your own fathers. Get outside, and show them off to the world!
