Family Day Activities in BC

family day activities bc from innovative fitness personal training

This weekend it’s Family Day in BC! BC always has to be different from the rest of the country – from its milder weather and laid back attitude, to deciding that Family Day would sit on a different day than the rest of the country… we march to the beat of our own drum here on the west coast!

Whether you’re spending time with young children, your parents, your siblings or any other loved ones, there are fun outdoor activities to be found in BC!

For those who love the mountains, we are only a few hours away from some of the best ski resorts, like world-class Whistler Blackcomb! Whistler has so much to offer during the winter months. With 2 mountains that have over 200 marked runs, 8171 acres of terrain and 16 alpine bowls, it is the perfect place for any ski lover. Even if you aren’t an avid skier, Whistler Olympic Park is only 27 minutes away from the Village, and offers plenty of activities such as tobogganing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, baseboarding, biathlon and ski jumping. Whistler Village itself is a fantastic option for those wishing to spend the day walking and exploring.

There are plenty of family-friendly winter activity options to do right here in Vancouver.
  • Seymour Mountain, Cypress Mountain and Grouse Mountain are all open for most of the ski season (weather permitting), and are a great option for those on a budget. Grouse Mountain is offering a variety of fun Family Day activities. While one adult gondola ticket will cost $43.95, you can purchase discounted family tickets for 2 adults and 2 children for only $89.95.
  • Ice skating in Robson Square is a popular option for Vancouverites on a budget, with free skating and only $4 skate rentals. This is also a potential romantic precursor to Valentine’s Day, if you’re spending your weekend with a partner! Follow up the skate with a walk through Vancouver’s vibrant downtown core.
  • Commercial Drive is hosting its annual Family Day celebration at Britannia Ice Rink from 1pm to 3:30pm, with family-friendly activities and skating – all free of charge!

Of course, when the weather won’t permit outdoor activities, we love spending some quality time indoors with family. Getting a head-start on spring cleaning is a great way to get a bit of light physical activity and spend time together, while doing something productive.

At Innovative Fitness, we believe in giving back to our communities. If your cleaning session involves getting rid of no-longer-useful items, we recommend contacting local charities to arrange a pick-up or drop-off time to donate. Teaching children at a young age that giving back matters is just as important as encouraging physical activity. Let’s build healthy communities together!
