Many of us know someone we know who has dealt with cancer in some form. Some of us might even have been directly affected by this disease and may still be dealing with it. On April 2nd, the IF Kits team used an activity we’re pretty good at—working out—to help fight cancer, as part of the Workout to Conquer Cancer. As a group, we were able to raise close to $8000 for the cause.
Fun for Funds
This was the second year in a row that Kits put a team in for the event. Last year we had 6 individuals on the IF Kits team, and this year we doubled that number, with 12 people.
Participants are required to raise a minimum of $500 per individual. As a training group, we decided that we wanted to offer weekly Cancer Circuit Classes so that members and friends could do the workouts and make small donations to the cause. The circuits were a success, and we did them Monday and Wednesday nights for 2 months leading into the event.
These sessions culminated in a Cancer Fundraiser night at the Stable House Bistro on South Granville. Over 50 people showed up for the night, which made it a big success. We are also grateful to the people of Stable House for allowing us to have the party at their venue as it is a great spot.
Participants are required to raise a minimum of $500 per individual.
The Day of Torture
Having raised all of the necessary funds, we met up at the Richmond Oval for the day of torture. We started the day off with a retro 80’s aerobics class, which was both challenging and a lot of fun. Directly after that we did a Bootcamp class, then a Barre Fitness class, followed by boxing and a yoga session. After lunch, the day finished with a Zumba dancing session. It was a full day’s worth of events and there was a great attitude and camaraderie amongst all of the participating individuals and teams.
A Big Thank You
I would like to thank all the members, friends and family who supported our team at the classes and fundraiser. We’d also like to thank the coaches Ben Carr, Aleksander Saddlemyer, Nick Lung, Heather Thornton, and Michael Chong for donating their time to lead the classes and raise the funds to make the day a success. A big thank you also goes out to Suretha Swart, Guity Elmieh, Sylvie Mercier, Gary Sheehan and Kama Tolan-Souter for adding to our Team!
