Biking for the Kids

Posted in IF News | IF Legacy

Back in July the coaches and members of IF started some on-course training for the Innovative Fitness Adventure Challenge in support of kids’ health, coming up on September 11th.

One such training day found two coaches, Sean Allt and Ben Car, leading a group of members on the mountain bike course that will be used on September 11th. It was an interesting day: both Sean and Ben had completed the Adventure Challenge in the past but this year there were some changes to the course. These changes introduced new challenges through more uphill climbs and more technical trails. It was more than anyone expected that day but the feeling of accomplishment was that much sweeter because of it!

Of course, by the time the team had finished the ride everyone was famished and in need of a delicious beverage. We headed down the street to Moody Ales, where we had gone after the 2015 Adventure Challenge, to satisfy that craving for tasty food and drink.

The only problem: there was no food due to the fact that Rib Fest was happening the same day just a couple of blocks away. (Okay, so “problem” may have been the wrong choice of word there.)

The solution: head over to Rib Fest! Some people might say that it’s an over-indulgence but when you’ve already burned over 1200 calories on a bike ride I’d argue that a mountain of ribs is a completely acceptable option.

Not only did the team get in a solid training ride to prep them for an event that anticipates raising over $100,000 for children’s health charities, but they got guilt-free indulgence in some very tasty treats.

What IF you could?
