Irony

Posted in IF Science

I like to get inspiration for writing from the things I see in the world.  Consciously think about what you’re taking in and reflecting upon it.

This past weekend I saw something so incredibly ordinary that it got me thinking.  As I was driving down the road I saw a woman in a field with her dog.  She was tossing a ball that her dog would go run down, return to her, so she could once again throw it away.  One word popped into my head.  Irony.

We know that our pets need exercise.  We want to them to be healthy, fit, and live long lives.  We make them move, we make them exercise.  But there we are.  Standing there, and the most movement that we’re getting is bending over, picking up the ball, and tossing it another 20 yards.  Huge rotator cuff development though!

I visited a friend last week, and on the table they had a cup from a fast food place. On the cup, in big bold letters, read “Eat like you mean it”. As I was polishing off my fifth cheeseburger I pondered this. I know what they’re getting at.  But I’m stealing it from them, and making it my own.  What if you did eat like you meant it?  Or were more conscious about it?

You consciously pick the correct fuel to put in your car.  What if you ate as if the food you put in your body was your fuel?  I’ve been struck with this crazy idea!  The higher quality fuel you put in, the better you’ll feel, you’ll run better, your engine will last longer.  It’s a revolutionary idea I know.  Consciously select the right fuel for you.  Eat like you mean it.

It’s too easy now to grab food on the way home, rather than grocery shop, then cook, then eat, then clean.  It’s too easy to stand in one spot watching other people sweat, and move, and get tired.  The luxury of convenience is slowly poisoning, and killing us!

You have one of the most complex biomechanical bodies at your disposal.  It was meant to move, it was meant to sweat, and it was meant to be fuelled properly.  Take care of it!  Use it!

*disclaimer* – at no point in the recent past have I consumed 5 cheeseburgers in one sitting…I no longer condone this type of gluttonous eating.
