IF Hike Series: Eagle Bluffs

Out in west Vancouver, on Cypress Mountain, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city and the panorama of Cabin Lake and Black Mountain. Eagle Bluffs takes you past Yew Lake and alongside the chair life, following the route to Black Mountain.

The beginning of the hike is relatively steep and includes quite a few switchbacks as you make your way to Cabin Lake. About 250m before Cabin Lake, there’s a viewpoint overlooking the Lions and Brunswick Mountain and, across the ridge, you can see Bowen Island and the southern end of the Sunshine Coast.

Back on the trail, passed Cabin Lake, you continue to the top of Black Mountain, where you can take another look at the Lions. After Black Mountain, continue on the trail, where you will pass both Owen and Cougar Lakes. Finally, the trail will get a little rocky and there will be a well-forested area before reaching the magnificent view from the top of Eagle Bluffs. Here you can see the marina at Eagle Harbour and the city of Vancouver. Sometimes, on very clear days, you can see Vancouver Island and the snowy slopes of Mount Baker!

The hike takes anywhere between 2 and 4 hours, return trip. It is 8 km in distance and about a 350 m elevation gain. Dogs are welcome on the trail and it is a great trail if you like variety. No regrets from the crew at IF Kits and IF Four Seasons – the view is truly incredible and there are many sights to see along the way!
