After a successful 6 years of growth in the physical activity domain, 60 Minute Kids Club is levelling up. The next evolution in the 60MKC program has finally arrived. June 1st, 2016 marks the completion of the Spring Healthy Habits challenge and the beginning of a new path that 60MKC will be blazing. True to the values instilled in the 6o MKC philosophies from its Innovative Fitness roots, we will not be embarking on this new journey alone – we have teamed up with Sport for Life Society to begin this new chapter in the 60MKC story.
Sport for Life is a movement to improve the quality of sport and physical activity in Canada. The Sport for Life Society (S4L) is recognized as national experts in the domains of sport for life, long-term athlete development (LTAD) and physical literacy development. S4L links sport, education, recreation and health, and aligns community, provincial, and national programming. S4L, with LTAD, represents a paradigm shift in the way Canadians lead and deliver sport and physical activity in Canada.
60MKC and S4L have worked collaboratively over the years and are now making the intentional decision to join teams, with the vision that working together will allow greater opportunity to improve the quality of sport and physical activity in Canada.
So where does this mean for Innovative Fitness? For starters, IF is at the core of 60 MKC so wherever 60 MKC goes, IF goes as well. With the coast to coast reach that S4L has, especially in the sport sector, IF has the opportunity to be profiled everywhere that S4L reaches. Whether it is in high level conversations with ministers or on the ground work in sports clubs around the country, IF will be a part of all of those touch points.
This also helps bring IF into the physical literacy space in a very intentional matter. 60MKC and S4L are working to help every Canadian to progress along their physical literacy journey, and a major component of that is the development of fundamental movement skills and general fitness. The coaches at IF are already delivering a high level of training in these areas and now they will be thrust into the forefront as clubs that can support individuals and organizations with their physical literacy strategies. Whether it means going into schools to deliver inspiring, educational sessions to teach kids the basics of movement or being trained as physical literacy instructors to then respond to a growing demand for this training in the communities, IF will be part of the solution as we all work together to support the active and healthy living of our communities.
Stay tuned for more exciting news about the 60MKC/S4L integration and what your IF club is doing to support raising more confident and competent movers in your community and around the country.
All the best,
