Most of us know about and have personally experienced the “freshman 15.” However, we tend to ignore the dangerous consequences of ‘letting ourselves go’ or ‘growing into a comfortable routine’. Once the 15 (we hope it’s just 15) is on, it’s not just our fat that tends to sit looser, it’s also our mind, thoughts, and self control that tend to spiral down the same path.
Let’s take a second to assess the true repercussions of this… yes, of course there is the shaming, the blaming, and the excuses: “I will change,” or, “I’m going to start exercising on Monday.”
But we all know how hard that is to make a reality. Once school is done (or even during our university career), we are required to take on more responsibilities and opportunities to grow both personally and professionally. With so many tasks on your plate, what do you cut first? Flash forward 4 years and there you are sitting at your desk thinking, “Wow, how the heck did I become this way?”
We need to target and make efforts to cease this growing epidemic. It’s going to require a collective agreement amongst people in the health and fitness industry to advertise and spread the word of HEALTH worldwide. If we can do a good job, I can’t imagine the effects it will have on happiness, well-being, and overall quality of life.
A great example of this comes from a member review from IF White Rock — Tyler Doyle.
He writes:
“My name is Tyler and Innovative Fitness White Rock has changed my life — simply put, I achieved and exceeded the results I wanted and the goals that I set for myself.
Like lots of high school athletes, the dream of going professional eventually faded. I stopped training hard and the “freshman 15” turned into the “senior 25”.
In early 2015, before training at IF, my interest shifted towards becoming a police officer. Once I felt like I was in good shape, I ran the POPAT (police physical entrance exam) and obtained a 4:22 score (which was unfortunately a FAIL with a passing mark of sub 4:15). I ran it thinking I was in “good enough” shape, but after failing I was devastated and extremely upset.
After spending the summer sulking and upset with myself, I decided to make a change — I wanted to get my life in order, from weight loss to a consistent training regimen.
As my mom was a member of IF, I decided to give it a shot and instantly fell in love with it. I joined with the ultimate goal to pass the POPAT with flying colors.
I started working with Kevin Kim (who is still my current trainer), and in 4 months of working with him, I’ve not only found a dedicated and inspiring trainer, I’ve gained a true friend. Kevin was friendly and easy to talk to, but was also there to push me past what I couldn’t see myself doing.
I got the call to run the POPAT again last weekend and I ran it in 3:30. I couldn’t believe it and I wanted to cry to be honest. Kevin has helped me to accomplish every goal I have set out to accomplish. I couldn’t be happier with him as my trainer and as my friend.
Innovative Fitness White Rock has changed my life. I am so grateful and I can’t say enough good things about this facility. Thanks IF!”
Examples like this one really highlight the values of Innovative Fitness. We are in the business to provide challenge, adversity, and victory. Let’s never forget that and keep on doing what we do best — creating experiences and providing results.
