I would like to extend a big congratulations to the five IF West Vancouver clients and coaches that ran in the Victoria half and full marathon events this past long weekend. It was a great trip over to the island – even the weather cooperated making Sunday a perfect day for running.
Sonia Bonnor ran her first half marathon, and despite fighting off a cold all week, finished with a great time of 2:19. Sonia has been on a year-long journey building towards this event. She was thrilled to complete it and happy to have met her goal.
Matt Shaw also took part in his first half marathon and crossed the finish line at 2:15. After a major injury setback earlier this year, Matt has bounced back to show how perseverance can pay off.
Sonia and Matt had trained hard for this race and felt amazing after it was done. They are already looking forward to bigger goals for the upcoming year – the IF team is excited to be a part of their next challenges!
IF coach, Andrew Welch ran his first half marathon and surprised himself with an amazing time of 1:42. During training both knees were a point of concern for Andrew, but he fought through and was able to register a great time.
Mary Darvill, another IF coach, took part in her second half marathon, following up on her great debut in the Seawheeze half marathon a couple of months ago. Looking to set a personal best, and shave a couple minutes off her Seawheeze time, she finished at 1:38. Two minutes under her goal time. Mary has her sights set on tackling the challenge of a full marathon in the near future.
Wade Dickinson completed his second marathon on Sunday and set a personal best as well. His goal was to hit 3:30 but he crossed the line at 3:23 which was a whopping 34 minutes faster than his first marathon a year ago! Wade has a year ahead that includes multiple marathons ending with an ultramarathon next summer.
All participants at the Victoria Marathon put in a great effort and set new benchmarks in their performance. Everyone has fought through a setback or two, only to come out stronger than before. Each one is a great example of how overcoming adversity with a great attitude can result in victory!
